Cary Earns Gamer of the Week Honors

Teays Physical Therapy Center, Inc. and The Putnam Herald are pleased to present this week’s male Gamer of the Week to Maki Cary of Teays Valley Christian Basketball!

Maki Cary has been leading the scoring for Teays Valley Christian. The Junior has averaged 26.4 points, 3.5 assists, and 2.3 steals per game this season. Teays valley Christian finished the season with a 13-11 record winning their last 3 games and the West Virgina Christian Athletic Tournament (WVCAT). “This season had a lot of ups and downs, but we came together and got the championship,” said Cary.

When discussing highlights this season, Cary pointed to scoring his 1000th point and scoring 50 points against Buffalo. “Maki is an elite scorer, a leader, and great at facilitating to his teammates. He also guards the opponent’s best player,” said head basketball coach Steve Shockey.

Cary started playing basketball when he was little and say his mom and uncle who played for Florida Gulf Coast and University of Charleston respectively have been big influences. He attributes a lot of his success this season to his coaches, teammates and the training he has put in this year. Looking ahead, Cary says he is looking forward to next season and evaluating his options at the next level.

Please look for other local high school athletes to be named in next week’s male Gamer of the Week Sponsored by Teays Physical Therapy Center, Inc., and The Putnam Herald.
