Female Gamer of the Week: Tiarra Jackson
By Anna Davis, ATC, Administrator of Fitness Operations

Teays Physical Therapy Center, Inc. & The Putnam Herald are pleased to present this week’s Female Gamer of the Week award to Tiarra Jackson of St. Albans High School.

Daughter of Tiffany Allen and Cornelius Jackson, Tiarra Jackson is a junior at St Albans High School, and is a member of their varsity girls’ basketball team. Tiarra carries a 3.7 GPA and is also a member of the girls track team. “I just really like being involved,” said Tiarra, “sports are fun to me.” Once she graduates high school, Tiarra has plans of attending college and pursuing a degree in interior design.

Tiarra began her basketball career at a very young age. “My dad played basketball and he got me into the sport and I honestly couldn’t imagine playing anything else,” said Tiarra. Tiarra’s father, Cornelius Jackson, started his college career at Tennessee and played his last three years at Marshall. In high school he was named Player of the year in West Virginia and ranked in the top 50 players in the 1995 Nike Camp. “I have big shoes to fill,” stated Tiarra, “I just want to make him proud.” Like her father, Tierra plays guard on the court. In this position she is responsible for running the team’s offense and making sure that the ball gets to the correct player. Aside from playing guard, Tiarra also plays the position of forward where she is responsible for playing offensively and playing man-to-man defense. “She is a great player, I am excited that we are able to have her for one more year,” stated Coach Scott Tweedy.

This past week the Red Dragons scored a win over the Huntington Highlanders. In this game Tierra had a total of 19 points, leading the girl’s team to a victory with a final score of 78-43. “We have played really well the past couple of games,” said Tiarra, “our coach has helped our team to be the best we can be.” When Tiarra was asked what her goals were for the rest of the season, her answer was simply, “Make it further into the State tournament.” Last year the Lady Red Dragons were knocked out in the first round by Buckhannon Upshire High school. Tiarra said, “I don’t want that to happen again, I think we are better prepared than ever going to the final half of this season.”

Having her dad behind her every step of the way, Tiarra Jackson is ready to make a mark on St. Albans Girls basketball. “He is role model, he worked so hard and I want to play in college like he did.” Tiarra is on her way to becoming an excellent basketball player, like famous NBA star Michael Jordan once said, “Some people want it to happen, some wish it could happen, others make it happen.” This statement describes Tiarra Jackson, she will make her dreams her reality.
