The Lady Patriots Girl’s Basketball started the season with a convincing win over Covenant 50-38 last week to open the year. One standout player for the Patriots known for her versatility is junior point-guard Hannah Bailey. The junior posted a double-double scoring 22 points and grabbing 10 rebounds in the Patriots first victory. The Patriots are looking to build on last year and make a run in the competitive WVCAT conference this year.
When asked about what was her motivating force, Hannah responded, “It comes from my teammates and Coach Tottman. I want to be the best player I can be for the team and help put us in position to win games.” When Hannah was asked about who inspires her to play sports she replied, “My mother inspires me to play to the best level I can because she has always been there for me on and off the court.”

The Patriots are still a rather young team but have benefited from the new additions of Sydney Facemyer and Caitlyn Richards on this year’s squad. What the Patriots don’t have in height, they make up for in heart and hustle on the court as they can be seen boxing out to get rebounds and moving the ball to get open shots. Coach Tottman’s Patriots have continued to play with the motto, “Throw me to the wolves and I will return leading the pack.” When asked about Hannah’s play this year Coach Tottman said, “Hannah is a very hard worker and she steps it up everyday in practice and games. She has grown into a great leader and she brings out the best in her teammates.’’ Coach Tottman loves the energy and desire her young team possesses, and looks forward to the future ahead. The Lady Patriots are poised to make a good run in the WVCAT and are a force to be reckoned with.

Hannah currently has a 3.8 GPA and is the daughter of Susan and Charles Bailey. She is also member of the volleyball and softball teams for Calvary Baptist. Hannah is currently undecided where she will attend college but would like to pursue a degree in physical therapy in the future.

Please look for other local high school athletes to be named in next week’s Female Gamer of the Week Sponsored by Teays Physical Therapy Center, Inc. & The Putnam Herald.
