Last week the Lady Dots Girl’s Basketball team improved their record to 10-4 by beating Hurricane and Man High Schools while eventually losing to Winfield. One standout player for the dots that has provided an offensive punch is junior guard Aubrey Chandler. Chandler scored a combined 51 points (17 points/game) over the three game stretch while playing the two guard and stretch-three positions. Chandler and Dots are taking it one game at a time and setting themselves up nicely for a post season run.

When asked about what motivates her, Aubrey responded, “My teammates and coaches inspire me because I don’t want to let them down. I want to focus on playing at 100% effort and the rest will take care of itself. The team worked hard this offseason again and we want to go further than last year.”

The Lady Dot’s offense is much improved from last year’s squad as many of the players are back in action. Defense has continued to be a strong spot for the Dots, though they have had to adapt their style of play due to injuries. Head Coach Kenny Sayre’s team is past the midway point in the season, and primed to play their best basketball. When asked about Aubrey’s play this year Coach Sayre said, “Aubrey’s confidence is much improved compared to her sophomore season. She has grown into a great team leader for her teammates and good role model for our younger players.

Aubrey has become more accurate with her three point shooting and is one of the best shooters on our team. This season we asked her to dial up the pressure on defense, and she has done a fantastic job in being aggressive without fouling. She has been able to defend multiple positions due to her versatility and willingness to help the team anyway she can.” Coach Sayre and the Dots are hoping the roller coaster of a regular season will help prepare them for post season play and ultimately result with the Dots getting a state tournament birth.

Aubrey has a 3.5 GPA is the daughter of Marshall and Becky Chandler. Aubrey plans to continue her education at Marshall University, and is wants to pursue collegiate basketball in the future.

Please look for other local high school athletes to be named in next week’s Female Gamer of the Week Sponsored by Teays Physical Therapy Center, Inc. & The Putnam Herald.
