Last week the Lady Bison girl’s basketball team had impressive wins over Point Pleasant High School 35-27 and Teays Valley Christian School 45-41. One standout player that made a large impact in last week’s victories was guard Emily Reilly. Reilly scored double digits both games and filling up the stat column with rebounds, assists, and steals. Reilly and the Lady Bison are hoping continue riding on this two game winning streak into post-season play.

When asked about what motivates her, Emily responded, “My teammates and coaches motivate me because I want to play to the best of my abilities to help our team. Assistant Coach Mike Kelly has really pushed us this year and has helped put us in better position to win games. When asked her support outside of basketball Emily said, “I’m also inspired to play because of my family. They are very supportive in all that I do, and I just want to make them proud on and off the court.”

The Lady Bison have a veteran squad but many of its seniors have returned from taking a hiatus from basketball. Buffalo went through a rough stretch during the midway point in the season, but now have won three of the last four games. The Lady Bison have seemed to get their game back at the right time. Reilly and the Bison believed they have reconnected with each other and are all on the same page. Second year head coach Ritchie Wyant has his team going in the right direction in the nick of time. When asked about Emily’s play this year Coach Wyant said, “Emily is one of our most consistent offensive players. We can count on her to put points on the scoreboard, whether she’s putting the ball in the hoop, or putting her teammates in positions to score. Emily has been a great leader for us and she always gives 100% effort. She’s a very talented athlete, but more importantly she’s fantastic student and young woman.” Coach Wyant and the Lady Bison plan to continue with their winning ways as they approach Single-A sectional and regional play.

Emily has a 4.08 GPA and is the daughter of Paula and P.J. Reilly. She also plays on the softball team, involved in the National Honor Society, Young Democrats, Link Crew, and is part of the Junior Class Student Council. Emily plans to continue her education at West Virginia University and major in accounting.

Please look for other local high school athletes to be named in next week’s Female Gamer of the Week Sponsored by Teays Physical Therapy Center, Inc. & The Putnam Herald.
