The Winfield Girl’s Track Team is the Gamers of the Week

Teays Physical Therapy Center, Inc. & the Putnam Herald are pleased to present this week’s female Gamer of the Week to Putnam County’s own Winfield High School’s Girl’s Track Team.

The Lady Generals Girl’s track team had an impressive outing in the AA West Virginia State Championship track meet winning first place overall in Charleston last weekend. The Lady Generals won by a narrow margin as they beat second place Bridgeport by 11 points to win their third straight state title scoring 145 points overall. Notable first place finishers and state champions for the Generals were: 4x800 team that consisted of Peyton Fronaphel, Isabella Robinson, Shannon Riley, and Grace Cole; Shuttle hurdles relay team that consisted of Lauryn Bady, Savannah Hoff, Taryn Napier, and Mary Lawman; Grace Cole in the 800m; Mary Lawman in the 100 high hurdles with a meet record 15.05; the 4x100 rely team that consisted of Molly Wallace, Mary Lawman, Sydney Cavender, and Carly Hinkle; the 4x200 relay team that consisted of Molly Wallace, Lauryn Lady, Taryn Napier, and Carly Hinkle; Carly Hinkle in the High Jump with a meet record of 5-8.25, and Shannon Riley in Pole Vault 10-6. The lone runner-up for the Generals was Mary Lawman in the long jump. Lawman finished 3rd place overall in the high point to wrap up another successful state meet for the Lady Generals.

This marks the Generals first AA state championship since reclassifying this scholastic year to the AA competition. Previously the Generals won two consecutive AAA state championships in 2015 and 2016 in Girl’s Track and Field.  Coach David Bailey stated, “The girls are very dedicated and focused.  They work hard to achieve what they want to achieve.”
