Skilled and hardworking are just a few of the positive words coach Shelly Young had to say about her midfielder, Brooke Lucas. “She does a great job controlling the middle of the field,” said Young. “I am excited to see what this season has in store for her.” So far this season Brooke has scored 2 goals and has played a vital part in the success of the Redskins. With only three games into the season, Brooke has already set goals for herself, “I would love to win states which is the ultimate goal.”
When asked about what she believed the success to their season is, Brooke stated that the key to their accomplishments have been in their ability to possess the ball. “It is very important to have control (of the ball),” says Brooke. Without having a strong possession game it would be very difficult to have a successful season.

With over 11 years of experience on the field, Brooke says that the best part about playing soccer is being able to meet new people and share the love of the game. Brooke plans to continue playing soccer in college and majoring in education, where she can continue to meet new people each school year. Currently, Brooke holds a 3.8 GPA and is involved in various other extracurricular activities outside of soccer.

When asked what inspires her, Brooke responded, “My parents, Shawn and Wendi. They have always been there for me and helped me in any way they could.” I wouldn’t be where I am today without them. From driving her to games, sitting in the stands, helping her with her schoolwork to all of the other activities she was involved in, Brooke’s parents were there for her each step of the way. As Eileen Keene Moore once said, “By loving them for more than their abilities, we show our children they are much more than the sum of their accomplishments.”

Brooke is looking forward to the rest of her junior season and cannot wait to take the field as a senior next year. “It is going to be a great year,” Brooke said referring to her senior year. However, she is set and focused on the task at hand. With three games this week she knows what needs to be done to get the Redskins to the next level.
