“Communication and Trust”-The two words that Autumn used to describe her team’s season so far. “Without the ability to communicate and trusting that your teammates will be there we wouldn’t be as strong of a team as we are.” Autumn Elswick is a senior at Winfield High School and has played volleyball for 7 years. Autumn has played a key role in the General’s successful season. Being a setter she is responsible for consistently delivering a good ball to hit for her teammates. When Autumn was asked what she loves most about her sport she stated, “I love my team, and accomplishing all of the goals we have had set for the season.”

The Winfield Generals volleyball team has dominated the court since the start of the season. This past Tuesday they defeated Scott (25-5, 25-8), and St. Joe (25-10, 25-8). “I just want us to win states,” said Autumn, “we deserve this title.” She and her team have worked tirelessly though summer training and into the fall. “We are ready for anything that comes our way.” When asked who inspires her most Autumn wanted to recognize one of her good friends Kelsey Matusic. “She has always been a great friend, player and teammate.”

Off the court Autumn carries a 3.96 GPA and in her spare time loves to hang out with her friends whether it be at the gym or watching college volleyball. After high school Autumn plans to attend Marshall University and become a nurse practitioner.

“She is such a hard worker, always gives 100%, I couldn’t ask for more,” said Rebecca Lovejoy, coach of the Winfield volleyball team. “I have never met someone who has such desire on the court, she tries so hard to touch every ball and her drive pushes the rest of the team to try harder,” Autumn was voted team captain by her teammates and Coach Lovejoy says that all of the girls look up to her and respect her as both a teammate and a friend. “I am thankful for her hard work and dedication to our volleyball program, she will be greatly missed when she graduates.”
