By Anna Davis, ATC, Administrator of Fitness Operations

Daughter of Stacey Cole and Adam Cavender, Sydney has played soccer for 13 years. “I love it, getting to play with my team and being so competitive is what I love most about it.” Throughout her high school career Sydney has scored 100 goals, with 36 of those being in her final senior season. “She is such a hard worker and a great leader on the field, and she will be missed,” said Coach Marshall Hoff. For this season Sydney has set goals for herself. She would love to be player of the year, state champions again and she wants to stay close as a team. “They (her team) push me to be my best, they encourage me and I couldn’t do it without them.”

So far this season the Winfield Generals girl’s soccer team has dominated the field. This past week they defeated St. Joe 2-1, Sherman 7-0, and George Washington 7-1. Sydney stood out by scoring five goals against George Washington. “It was a great feeling, and finally hitting 100 goals for my career was pretty awesome too.” Outside of her teammates, Sydney wanted to recognize her coaches as well as her parents for being her support throughout her years of playing soccer. “They are the best, they are so encouraging.”

Off the field Sydney carries a 3.5 GPA and is involved in several extracurricular activities. She is a part of the Winfield General’s basketball team and track team. She is the student body secretary and also takes time to sing at her church. She has plans of attending college where she will continue her soccer career and major in Biology.

When Sydney was asked what she believes the key to her team’s success was she stated, “We are very good at communicating. We always make sure we are first to the ball and we have really improved on our passing skills.” Sydney would love to see her team win states, stating,“It would be amazing to be a part of another state champion team, especially with it being my last season in high school.” “The girls have done an amazing job, I would love to see them go all the way, I know they can do it,” said Coach Hoff.
