Female Gamer of the Week: Reagan Raines
By Anna Davis, ATC, Administrator of Fitness Operations

Teays Physical Therapy Center, Inc. & The Putnam Herald are pleased to present this week’s Female Gamer of the Week award to Reagan Raines of St. Albans High School.

Daughter of Janna and David Raines, Reagan Raines is a senior at St. Albans High School and is a member of the girls’ varsity swim team. Reagan carries and impressive 4.8 GPA and is involved with several school organizations such as Fellowship of Christian athletes, student council, National Honor Society and anchor club. Within these organizations Reagan holds very prestigious titles. She is President of the Senior Class, President of Anchor Club as well as Vice President of the National Honor Society. “I like to keep myself involved,” stated Reagan, “I don’t know what I would do if I didn’t keep myself busy.” Reagan has already committed to Marshall University’s Swim team and plans to study biology or biomedical engineering.

Swimming for approximately ten years, Reagan has always had a love for the water. “When I was little they couldn’t get me out of the pool, I just really connected with swimming from day one.” Last week at the Mountain State Athletic Conference, where she and her team mates competed against other AAA teams, Reagan was named MSAC swimmer of the year for the second year running.  She placed 1st in the 50 meter freestyle and 2nd in the 100 meter freestyle. “She is such a strong swimmer,” stated head coach Sydney Laton, “I am proud to have her on my team.”

Outside of swimming for St. Albans High School, Reagan also swims for a club team, the West Virginia Wilds. “I just want to be the best swimmer I can be. I love both of my teams and memories I have made are something that I will never forget.” When asked who inspires her most, Reagan stated, “My teammates. I see all of the work they put in, from eating right to lifting weights and I know that I am not alone.” With only two meets left, Reagan has a few more goals she would like to accomplish. “I would love to win states in my events, that would really top off my senior year.”

Last year at states Reagan placed second in the 50 yard freestyle, as well as the 100 yard freestyle. With such close times to her competitors, Reagan has really stepped up and pushed herself this season. “I was so close last year, my goal is to beat my previous time and hopefully place first.” Like the great Michael Phelps once said, “So many people along the way will tell you that it can’t be done, but all it takes is imagination, you dream, you plan, you reach.”
