George Earns Gamer of the Week Honors

Teays Physical Therapy Center, Inc. and The Putnam Herald are pleased to present this week’s male Gamer of the Week to Jakob George of Buffalo Wrestling!

Jakob George has been leading the way for Buffalo Wrestling this season. The Senior won the 165lb weight class at the Mike Stump Invitational. “The Mike Stump Invitational was definitely a highlight this season, I got a little bit injured in the first match and had to really push through the rest of the day to win,” said George.

This season, George has a 37-8 record, and is focused on making it through regionals this year. “Jakob has been a very driven young man. He wrestled for me in youth league and has set numerous goals over the years and have achieved all of them to this point except making the state tournament which he is working hard to accomplish this year,” said Head Wrestling Coach Scott Marcum.

George started wrestling when he was young. He says he likes how much the sport pushes you as well as the individual aspects of wrestling for yourself and not being reliant on anyone else on the mat. He attributes a lot of his success to his dad, coaches, and his late friend Caleb Marcum whom he says he wrestles for today.

In addition to Wrestling, George is an active member of the WV Army National Guard and completed basic training last summer. After high school, he will complete his guard training and plans to start an apprenticeship through the local 625 Pipe fitters’ union.

George and Buffalo Wrestling will be back in action this weekend at the Regional Tournament at the Jackson County Armory.

Please look for other local high school athletes to be named in next week’s male Gamer of the Week Sponsored by Teays Physical Therapy Center, Inc., and The Putnam Herald.
