Sayre Awarded Gamer of the Week Honors

Teays Physical Therapy Center, Inc. and The Putnam Herald are pleased to present this week’s Female Gamer of the Week to Senior, Kaitlyn Sayre of the Winfield High School basketball team.

Winfield’s Senior power forward Kaitlyn Sayre is having a great senior year. Sayre had a tremendous game against Sissonville scoring 21 points, 12 rebounds and 4 steals. “Kaitlyn is a multi-talented athlete at Winfield, as she is also an all-state goalkeeper on the soccer team. Kaitlyn has had a great year and an especially great week as she led us to the victory over #5 ranked Sissonville. Kaitlyn is playing her best at the best time as we prepare for a postseason run” Coach Andy Johnson.

Sayre first got involved in the sport of basketball “because it seemed like a good way to have fun and hang out with friends. Overtime I have stuck with it and enjoyed playing”. Kaitlyn has been playing basketball since the second grade, totaling 11 years on the court. The thing she enjoys the most about the sport is “using it as an escape from everything happening in the world. It’s a way to clear out all the stresses of school or anything else and just go play”.

Role models that Sayre has are her parents, “they have always been role models for me. They have always taught me to do what I love and put all my effort into it. They are always encouraging me as I play”. Goals that Sayre has for her team this season includes making it to states as well as to win sectionals and cut down the net. “It has always been a goal of mine and I’ve never been able to, but with this team I think we have a good chance to”. Sayre believes her team’s success has stemmed from everyone wanting to succeed and making it far into the post season. “We all have put in the effort and work together to get better”.

Not only is Sayre a stellar athlete, but she also excels in the classroom. Sayre is a member of the National Honors Society, National Science Honors Society, Mu Alpha Theta, Mu Alpha Beta, FCA, and has received 2nd team all-state in soccer for 2 years. Following high school Sayre plans on attending Marshall University and pursuing a degree in the medical field.

Please look for other local high school athletes to be named in next week’s female Gamer of the Week Sponsored by Teays Physical Therapy Center, Inc., and The Putnam Herald.
