Woods Earns Gamer of the Week Honors
Teays Physical Therapy Center, Inc. and The Putnam Herald are pleased to present this week’s Female Gamer of the Week to Freshman Brooke Woods of the Buffalo High School Basketball team.
Brooke Woods, a freshman at Buffalo High School, has quickly made a name for herself on the basketball court, averaging an impressive 15.5 points and 8.5 rebounds per game. Known for her versatility, Woods can seamlessly play all five positions, showcasing her all-around talent and making her a valuable asset to her team.
Woods first picked up a basketball in third grade, joining a church league, and her love for the game has only grown since. Over the past six years, she’s honed her skills and developed a passion for both scoring and defense. “The thing I like most about basketball is bonding with other players and playing defense,” Woods said. “I also enjoy scoring and making my team proud.”
This season, Woods and her team are focused on their goals of making it to states and having a winning season. She attributes their success to the dedication and effort of her teammates and the exceptional coaching they receive. “We dig deep and push ourselves in every game. We never stop playing until the buzzer hits, even when we’re tired. That’s the life of basketball—you have to get down the court no matter the situation,” Woods explained.
Woods’ work ethic and drive on the court are fueled by her role model, Paige Bueckers. “She puts effort into everything she does, never gives up, and always pushes through the pain,” Woods shared. “I try to emulate that in my own game and push myself to be the best I can be.”
Woods has already achieved significant recognition in her young career, earning All-Tournament and All-Conference honors in the CWVAC, as well as the High Point Award at the CWVAC Conference Track Meet. She was also named to the Wall of Achievement in middle school for maintaining straight A’s throughout all three years.
Looking ahead, Woods has aspirations of earning a college basketball scholarship. Though she’s still undecided on her major, she’s determined to pursue her passion for the game at the next level. With her dedication, talent, and work ethic, there’s no doubt that Woods has a bright future in basketball.
As a freshman, Woods has already shown the skills and determination of a seasoned player. “Brooke is a very versatile player who can play all 5 positions, very dedicated to the game and works very hard on her game. She will only get better” said Coach Mike Kelly. The Lady Bison’s will be back in action at home on January 30th versus the Lady Poca Dots.
