Ethridge Earns Gamer of the Week Honors
Teays Physical Therapy Center, Inc. and The Putnam Herald are pleased to present this week’s female Gamer of the Week to freshman, Ava Ethridge of the Winfield High School cross country team.
The Winfield Cross Country girls’ team is back this year stronger than ever. They are currently ranked 1st in the AA division. The team is blessed to have a talented freshman class that joined them this season. Among them is Ava Ethridge, who has been making waves in cross country and track since she was in 6th grade. She won the middle school cross country championship and broke several school records in track.
At her first high school meet, the Dutch Miller Cross Country Invitational she placed second with a time of 18:29. At St. Mary’s XC Festival, one the largest meets in the state, placed third with a time of 20:04. The Generals traveled to Fairland to compete in the Dragons Run by the River meet, where she won with a time of 19:05. This past weekend the team competed in the Giovanni's Boyd County Invitational where she won and hit a personal record for the season with a time of 18:23. Ava is currently ranked 2nd in the state. She hopes to continue to improve her time and eventually get under 18 minutes.
Ava started running when she was in sixth grade because of her friends. She loves the sense of accomplishment that she feels after she has finished a race. She is thankful to have two talented seniors on her team, Rachel Withrow and Miriam Al-Zoubi to look up to. They have helped push her at practices to become a better runner.
When Ava isn’t running cross country, then she is training for track. She plans on joining the high school team. Ava is also a member of the girl’s show choir group.
Please look for other local high school athletes to be named in next week’s female Gamer of the Week Sponsored by Teays Physical Therapy Center, Inc. and The Putnam Herald.
