Freeman Earns Gamer of the Week Honors
Teays Physical Therapy Center, Inc. and The Putnam Herald are pleased to present this week’s male Gamer of the Week to Tyler Freeman of Winfield Soccer.
Tyler Freeman of Winfield Soccer has been leading the way for the 6-1-2 Generals this season. The senior has scored 3 goals in the last 2 games and leads the team with 6 goals and 5 assists on the season. “Tyler is an incredible young man with a high soccer IQ. He works relentlessly on the field in practice and in games,” said head coach James Rader.
Winfield is off to its best start since 2019, and currently have the best record in the Cardinal Conference. “The team has really come together this season. Coach Rader has been leading us for the 3 years, so we have had time to build chemistry and learn to play very well as a team,” said Freeman. “Our team is young but off to a great start. With our older leadership we’ve been able to instill a solid work ethic. If we can get a little healthier, we should be able to have a strong finish,” said coach Rader.
Freeman started playing soccer when he was around 4-years old and has been playing travel soccer for a vast majority of that time. Last high school season, he earned All-Conference, All-Region, and 2nd-Team All-State Honors. Then during the travel ball season, he played for a high level U19 Academy team. He attributes a lot of his success this season to the help of his dad and coaches, and all the experience he has gained. “His technical and tactical ability are off the charts and are only matched by his character. He is an absolute joy to coach,” coach Rader continued. After high school, Freeman plans to play college soccer and pursue an academic path to Physical Therapy school.
Winfield will be back in action Thursday at 6:00pm, when they take on Charleston Catholic at Charleston Catholic.
