Allen Awarded Gamer of the Week Honors

Teays Physical Therapy Center, Inc. and The Putnam Herald are pleased to present this week’s Female Gamers of the Week to Savannah Allen of the Hurricane High School tennis team.

The tennis state tournament wrapped up last week. Among the participants was a Hurricane sophomore, Savannah Allen. She is the team’s number-one seed singles and plays doubles with partner Ella Peterson. “Savannah is a mentally and physically strong and focused player. Her goal at the start of the season was to advance to the State Tournament. She remained focused on that goal and did not get distracted, always playing her hardest and problem-solving effectively in challenging match situations,” said Head Coach Gennifer Taylor.

Savannah was the Region IV single champion which advanced her to the states and was ranked 3rd. In her first match, she defeated Mya Greenlee of Morgantown (8-0), and she went on to defeat Riya Jones of George Washington (8-0). She was bested by Nadia Orcutt of George Washington in the semi-finals. She was named to the All-Tournament team and finished the season 18-3.

Savannah started playing tennis when she was young thanks to her mom signing her up for lessons. She has grown to love the sport. As a sophomore, she is looking forward to future opportunities at the state tournament and to keep getting better as a player. “It was a privilege to coach her this season. Many great things to come for her!” said Coach Taylor

When she isn’t playing tennis for her school she is also competing as an individual in the off-season. Savannah not only excels on the court, but she also excels academically. She is a member of Math Field Day and Mu Alpha Theta.

Please look for other local high school athletes to be named next week’s female Gamer of the Week Sponsored by Teays Physical Therapy Center, Inc., and Putnam Herald.
