Hawkins Awarded Gamer of the Week Honors
Teays Physical Therapy Center, Inc. and The Putnam Herald are pleased to present this week’s female Gamer of the Week to senior, Savannah Hawkins of the Hurricane High School golf team.
Savannah Hawkins is starting out strong for her final year at Hurricane High School. The high school season began with the Callaway Junior Tour High School Series. The first event was at Bel Meadow on August 3rd where Hurricane came out on top, and Savannah shot the low score 1 over par at 73. Savannah again shot the lowest score at the Oglebay Jones course in Wheeling shooting an even par of 71. In the final event at Parkersburg Country Club Hurricane placed 3rd and Savannah was a top 5 medalist, tying for 3rd with a 2 under par at 71. Hurricane was victorious in this series claiming the overall champion of the Tri-State Callaway Junior Tour High School Series Cup.
When asked what has led to her team's success this season Savannah stated, “We are out there practicing, basically every day. We always play together, and I think that like most teams, we've worked hard and there's a lot of good talent on our team.” Hawkin’s love for golf comes from being from a competitive family. She stated that playing golf is her favorite part of the year and she loves being under pressure in a tournament and competing.
Head Coach Courtney Dolin had this to say about Hawkins. “Savannah is just an all-around great person. Her golf game speaks for itself- she has improved every year, recently finishing two of the 3 Jr Callaway events with low round honors. What I would love for people to know about Savannah is that she is an amazing student. She participates in so many extracurricular clubs and organizations, her grades are top notch, and she is one of those people that you are just honored to know. I have been lucky to watch her grow into the leader of our HHS team- and I am so excited to see where she decides to pursue her education and golf career. One thing I know for sure is that Miss Hawkins will be a success both on and off the course!”
Savannah’s goals the rest of the season include capturing back-to-back girls state champion as well as bringing home the state championship for Hurricane. When asked about plans after high school Savannah said that she wants to pursue playing golf in college but is still weighing her options before making a final decision. Hurricane’s next match will be held on August 29th at 4pm against George Washington High School at Sleepy Hollow Golf Course.
Please look for other local high school athletes to be named in next week’s female Gamer of the Week Sponsored by Teays Physical Therapy Center, Inc., and The Putnam Herald.
