Wilkins Earns Gamer of the Week Honors

Teays Physical Therapy Center, Inc. and The Putnam Herald are pleased to present this week’s male Gamer of the Week to Tyrique Wilkins of St. Albans Basketball!

Tyrique Wilkins has been a leading contributor for the 4-3 St. Albans Red Dragons this season. The senior center has had several stand-out performances this season including leading St. Albans in scoring with 17 points in their 56-55 victory over George Washington.  “The season has been going well, we just hit a little adversity, but trying to play through that. I have just been getting in the gym and trying to stand out and grab as many rebounds as I can.” said Wilkins.

Last season, Wilkins earned Mountain State Athletic Conference Honorable Mention honors. The senior said this season he is just focused on being the best teammate and just playing well for all the people that come out to watch their games. “Tyrique has been a joy to coach this year. His athletic ability couple with his skill is unmatched on our team. He’s been very coachable and has been a leader this team has needed so far this year,” said Head Coach Bryan England.

Wilkins played football growing up, but tried basketball in middle school after the coach, Chad Minon recruited him to play. Wilkins found success in basketball and has played ever since. He attributes a lot of his progress as a player to his coaches including Coach Minon and his AAU coach Jason Guu. Looking to the future, Wilkins would like to play basketball at the college level, and is currently weighing his options.

St. Albans will be back in action Friday at 7pm when they travel to take on Riverside.

Please look for other local high school athletes to be named in next week’s male Gamer of the Week Sponsored by Teays Physical Therapy Center, Inc., and The Putnam Herald.
