Anderson Awarded Gamer of the Week Honors

Teays Physical Therapy Center, Inc. and The Putnam Herald are pleased to present this week’s Female Gamer of the Week to Junior, Alexandra Anderson of the Hurricane High School basketball team.

Hurricane’s junior point guard #1 Alexandra Anderson is helping lead her team to a 7-4 record on the season averaging 15 points per game, 6 rebounds, 3 assists & 3 steals per game.

Alex led the team to a championship at the Mt Storm Power Station Holiday Classic at Tucker County High School by scoring 15 points vs Grafton and 19 points vs Tucker County in the Championship Game, earning All-Tournament. “Alex is a 3-year starter and still just a junior. She’s growing into a leadership role this year and her impact on this team goes much further than scoring. She is a great defender, rebounder, and competitor as well. I’m looking forward to seeing how good she can become as a player, teammate, and leader over the next year.” said Coach Jeremy Young

Anderson has been playing basketball since she was six years old after getting involved with the sport because her and her grandpa would always dribble a basketball when he would babysit her. Alex’s biggest role models are her grandparents “They do so much for me and they don’t have to. They’ve always supported me in everything I do.” The thing that Alex loves most about the sport is the friends that she has made. She believes her team’s success this year has been because “we have all worked hard individually and together and put all of our skills together to improve.” Anderson’s individual goal for this season is to be the best leader she can be on the team going into her senior year. Alex’s team goals are to “keep the winning record alive and to keep improving with my teammates.”

Off the court Alex is involved in travel softball, raze club, prom committee, and has many volunteer hours. Athletic accolades that Anderson has acquired include all tournament at the Tucker County Holiday Classic, Second team all-state for softball, All-Kanawha Valley team for softball, honorable mention All-MSAC basketball, and first team all-state for softball. After high school Alex plans to continue playing softball or basketball while pursuing her dream of going to med school. The Redskins will be back in action January 10th at 7pm at St. Albans versus the Red Dragons.

Please look for other local high school athletes to be named in next week’s female Gamer of the Week Sponsored by Teays Physical Therapy Center, Inc., and The Putnam Herald.
