Vellaithambi Earns Gamer of the Week Honors
Teays Physical Therapy Center, Inc. and The Putnam Herald are pleased to present this week’s male Gamer of the Week to Noah Vellaithambi of Hurricane Football!
Noah Vellaithambi has been leading the way for the 7-2 Hurricane Football team. The senior quarterback has thrown for 2279 yards, completing 67% of his passes for 32 touchdowns. “This has been a fun season; we have only lost 2 close games. The team is always together and staying positive even in the face of some adversity no one puts their head down and we just stick together and fight through it,” said Vellaithambi.
Vellaithambi has also shown his running prowess this season rushing for 864 yards and 15 touchdowns on 100 carries which is about 3 yards per rush better than his sophomore season at quarterback. Vellaithambi had a great Junior season as running back earning First Team All-State and All-Kanawha Valley as Utility player. “Noah is one of the best players in our state. He leads the offense on the field and leads our locker room off the field. He’s a smart player and makes everyone around him better. Noah is having a tremendous season and should be mentioned for major awards,” said Head Coach Donnie Mays.
Vellaithambi started playing football when he was 7-years old after his dad offered him $50 if he would play, and he has played the game since. “I like the team aspect, you can’t only rely on yourself, you have to have faith in your teammates, everyone has their own job and If I do my job and my teammates do theirs, we will succeed,” said Vellaithambi. When discussing role models, he pointed to his parents and coaches who have pushed him to be the best he can be.
Looking ahead, Vellaithambi is planning to go to college to play football and is currently weighing his options. Hurricane will be back in action at home this weekend in the first round of the WVSSAC Playoffs.
