Greene Earns Gamer of the Week Honors

Teays Physical Therapy Center, Inc. and The Putnam Herald are pleased to present this week’s Male Gamer of the Week to Jojo Greene of Hurricane Basketball! 

Jojo Greene has been leading the way for the 5-2 Hurricane Basketball team. The Junior guard/forward is averaging 12.1 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game. Looking at the advanced stats, Hurricane is outscoring their opponents by 44 points when he is on the floor. “Jojo is a great kid, he has really matured and developed into a very good player. He has size, but also has the ability shoot and attack off the dribble, which can be a matchup problem with some teams,” said Head Coach Lance Sutherland.   

Hurricane is undefeated in West Virginia with their losses coming at the Smoky Mountain Christmas Class in Tennessee where they went 1-2 in their games. When discussing what has led to the team’s success this season Greene said, “Coach Sutherland pushing us in practice and everyone just being accountable and playing as one!”   

Basketball was not Greene’s first love; he said that he was all in on football until his cousin’s basketball team needed another player so he joined their team. He loved the game, and eventually quit football to pursue opportunities in basketball. When asked what he likes about the game, Greene said “I like the communication, bonding, and teamwork necessary to win. I like how you always have to talk and have your head on a swivel in order to compete and win.”  

Looking at people who have helped him along the way, Greene pointed to his dad who helps him with his ball handling and finishing at the rim, Sam Odell who has helped him with his shooting form this year, and his high school coaches. “Jojo has the potential to be one of the better players in the state this year, and really become a force his senior year,” said Head Coach Lance Sutherland.   

Hurricane will be back in action on Thursday when they take on Parkersburg at home at 7pm.
