O'Dell Earns Gamer of the Week Honors

Teays Physical Therapy Center, Inc. and The Putnam Herald are pleased to present this week’s male Gamer of the Week to Parker Odell of Hurricane Golf.

Parker O’Dell has been leading the way for the undefeated Hurricane Golf team this year. The freshman has had an outstanding season with top 10 finishes in all the Callaway Junior Tour High School Series Tournaments including a 2nd place finish at the WVGA High School Invitational at Stonewall Resort.  “The season has been going well, I came in as a freshman not really knowing what to expect, and just started playing good golf from the beginning and worked my way to the one seed,” said O’Dell.

“Even though he is a freshman, I would say his teammates still see him as a leader. He is the first to run on to the green to cheer on his teammates when they have a good round and also has high expectations for himself. He was leading scoring for the team in all the Callaway events and the MSAC tournament where he shot 72 and earned all-conference honors,” said head coach Sam O’Dell.

O’Dell started playing golf at a young age saying, “my dad was a big amateur golfer in West Virginia, so he started taking us to the course since we were able to walk.” He attributes a lot of his success this season to his dad who has always been there for him and helped him with his swing as well as the work he put in this off season, saying “all summer I have just been playing a lot of golf and staying at the course all day.”  When discussing what he likes most about golf, he pointed to being outside, meeting new people, and specifically with team golf being able to pick each other up if someone has a rough round.

In addition to golf, O’Dell plans to play basketball this season and is Freshman Vice President for Student Council at Hurricane.

Looking forward, Hurricane is poised to make a run at a state title October 8-9th at Oglebay Resort. This season Hurricane has won the Tri State Cup, the Mountain State Athletic Conference Championship, and is currently undefeated in team play.
