Torman Earns Gamer of the Week Honors
Teays Physical Therapy Center, Inc. and The Putnam Herald are pleased to present this week’s Female Gamer of the Week to Junior, Abigail Torman of the St. Albans High School Cross Country team.
St. Albans high school Abigail Torman has been making waves this cross-country season, showcasing her exceptional talent and dedication. Since starting her running journey in 6th grade, Torman has developed into one of the most formidable competitors in the state, consistently pushing herself and her teammates. “Abigail makes all the other girls around her better,” McClung said. “Her work ethic and attitude inspire everyone.”
With ambitious goals set for the season, Torman aims to break the 20-minute mark in three races and secure a top 10 finish at the state championship. Her determination and hard work are reflected in her impressive 5K personal best of 19:40, achieved at the Run with the Dragons event where she took first place. Under the guidance of her coach, Joshua McClung, Abigail has cultivated a strong sense of teamwork and leadership within her team. Coach McClung's commitment to the team is evident; he trains alongside the athletes, emphasizing the importance of shared effort and perseverance. “He will never make us do something that he wouldn’t do.”
Last season, Torman and her team celebrated significant successes, including winning the regional championship and qualifying for states. Torman’s finishes thus far include notable performances at several events:
Run with the Dragons 5K: 1st place, 19:40
Beckley Invitational: 3rd place, 20:01
Midland XC Festival: 10th place, 21:22
Irish Invitational: 2nd place, 20:58
Coal River Classic: 2nd place, 20:36
In addition to her hard work on the cross-country course, Abigail is also a talented soccer player, playing for the Charleston Clash 2008 girls' team, which recently clinched the state championship. Her commitment to sports is matched only by her academic ambitions. After high school Torman plans to obtain her BSN in Nursing and pursue an advanced degree.
Outside of athletics, Torman is actively involved in her school community as the junior secretary of the student council and as a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and the Anchor Club. Her leadership skills and positive influence are recognized by teammates and coaches. “Abbi is one of the most talented and hardworking cross-country runners in the state, but too humble to admit it. She consistently does whatever is needed and asked of her at practice and meets and has really stepped up as a leader for our team this fall.” Coach McClung.
As the season progresses, Torman and her team are looking forward to the regional championship, eager to work together and leave it all on the course in their pursuit of a state title.
