Swint Earns Gamer of the Week Honors

Teays Physical Therapy Center, Inc. and The Putnam Herald are pleased to present this week’s Female Gamer of the Week to Senior, Layla Swint of the Hurricane High School Volleyball team.

With the excitement of her last high school volleyball season upon her, senior middle blocker and captain #18, Layla Swint, is determined to make every moment count this season. Starting her volleyball journey at the age of 12, Swint quickly fell in love with the game. Over the years, she has become a familiar face on the court, representing the Putnam Travel Volleyball Club across various age groups, from the 12’s to the 17’s. This past spring marked the end of her travel season, a chapter that’s both exciting and bittersweet. When asked about what she enjoys most about the sport, Layla shared “I enjoy the people, friends, family and coaches. They have all helped shape me and played a big part in who I am.”

As a captain, Swint embraces the responsibility of leadership. “I take the role seriously and hope to be a good leader and role model.” she says. “I also want to soak in all the fun with my friends as this is my last season of volleyball.” Layla has thrived in the role of a captain. She is the vocal leader day in and day out while also leading with how hard she plays every game. She is a great leader for the younger players as well, whether it is by communicating to them or leading by example showing them how they should carry themselves daily. She has also had a good individual year up to this point where she has over 200 kills, .280 hit %, and 93% serve rate. She was named to the Putnam County Elite 8 team, and also made the top dawg all tournament team at Herbert Hoover.” Coach Dustin Walls.

One of the standout moments in her journey came when she was invited to play up an age division in travel volleyball. “I was nervous,” she recalls. “Reese Parsons and Abigail Deel took me under their wings in life and volleyball. We still stay in touch even though they have graduated and no longer play. They have always supported me.”

Her contributions haven’t gone unnoticed. Swint has garnered an impressive array of accolades this year, including First Team All-Tri State (2023), Second Team All Conference (2023), Honorable Mention All State (2023), Red, White, & Blue All Tournament (2023), Herbert Hoover Top Dawg All Tournament (2023), The Block Party All Tournament (2023), Speaking Team Captain at Hurricane High School (2024), Jersey Mike's Player of the Week (2024), Herbert Hoover Top Dawg All Tournament (2024), Putnam County Championship Elite 8 (2024), showcasing her hard work and dedication on the court.

Beyond volleyball, Layla is a member of the Chick-fil-A Leadership Club at Hurricane High School. With plans to attend Paul Mitchell Cosmetology School in Lexington, Kentucky.
