Marshall Earns Gamer of the Week Honors

Teays Physical Therapy Center, Inc. and The Putnam Herald are pleased to present this week’s male Gamer of the Week to Trace Marshall of Winfield Cross Country!

Trace Marshall has been leading the way for the Winfield General’s cross-country team. Marshall has finished in the top-10 of every race this season, including a 4th place finish at the first meet of the season, Dutch Miller XC invite, in a personal best time 16:03 and a second-place finish last week at the Giovanni’s Boyd County Invitational with a time of 16:08.  “The biggest reason I have been running faster this season is that I have been training at my own pace. Last year, I tried to push a little too hard and its kind of backfired and I didn’t hit the times I wanted,” said Marshall.

Trace is looking to improve on his stellar freshman season that earned him All-State honors after placing 6th at WVSSAC State Cross Country Championships. “Trace is having a great season so far. The work he put in this offseason is definitely paying off. He works extremely hard which helps push others on our team,” said head coach Shawn Anderson.

Trace says his older brother, Brayden, got him into running.  “Brayden is such a good runner, person, student and brother it’s hard to not want to do what he does,” said Trace. When discussing others who have helped him, he mentioned his parents, Coach Anderson, Coach Barkley, Coach Duncan, and Hurricane’s Coach Jonathan Fee. “I like the running community, it's hard to find runners that aren’t encouraging after the race,” said Trace.

Looking forward, Marshall says that he is hopeful the team can make it to the states this year. Winfield moved up to AAA this season. In addition to cross country, Marshall is a member of the Track and Field Team, Sophomore Student Counsil, and DECA.

Please look for other local high school athletes to be named in next week’s male Gamer of the Week Sponsored by Teays Physical Therapy Center, Inc., and The Putnam Herald.
