Schmidt Earns Gamer of the Week Honors

Teays Physical Therapy Center, Inc. and The Putnam Herald are pleased to present this week’s male Gamer of the Week to Kellon Schmidt of Hurricane Soccer!

Kellon Schmidt has been leading the way for the 5-0 Hurricane Soccer Team. The Senior has two goals on the season both in tight games against Winfield and Woodrow Wilson. “Kellon Schmidt’s skill and leadership as a four-year player and senior captain have been crucial to our team’s success. His character and dedication make him the backbone of our squad,” said Head Coach Kent Bailey.

When discussing the season Schmidt focused on the team saying that he is excited about the start they have had while still trying things and figuring out what will work best for the rest of the season. When discussing his play this season he said, “Really its just trying to be at the right place at the right time. I play striker so I drop back to mid-field a little bit, and then they play it off through me and then I try to get up off of that into the box for a cross or another through ball and just tap it in.”

Schmidt has been playing soccer since he was young, and says he is thankful for some coaches that he could look up to and that have really made him love the game.  He also pointed to his dad as an important role model in his life. When discussing what he likes most about soccer, Schmidt said “I like the thinking part of the game, understanding where everyone is at on the field, and figuring out how I can make an impact.”

In addition to soccer, Schmidt is a part of the National Honor Society and Ski Club at Hurricane. Looking ahead, Schmidt is focused on trying to help Hurricane return to the state tournament for the third year in a row. After high school, he plans on playing soccer in college and is still weighing his options. Hurricane will be back in action when they host Riverside on Thursday at 6:30pm.

Please look for other local high school athletes to be named in next week’s male Gamer of the Week Sponsored by Teays Physical Therapy Center, Inc., and The Putnam Herald.
