Justice Earns Gamer of the Week Honors
Teays Physical Therapy Center, Inc. and The Putnam Herald are pleased to present this week’s Female Gamer of the Week to Junior Kate Justice of the Hurricane High School Softball team.
Kate Justice, a standout pitcher for Hurricane High School, has become a key figure on the softball field and in her community. With nearly a decade of experience in the sport, Kate has proven herself not only as an elite athlete but also as a dedicated leader in and outside of the classroom.
Kate’s love for softball began early, thanks to her parents’ encouragement and the influence of her father, a former baseball player. “My dad played baseball, so it was only right that I tried softball,” Kate shared. Her natural talent quickly emerged, and she has been dominating as one of the top pitchers in the state.
Over her high school career, Kate has racked up an impressive 306 strikeouts, earning herself First-Team All-State and First-Team All-Conference honors. “I love the competitiveness and the drive to get better,” she said, reflecting on what keeps her motivated. “It’s about always striving to improve and push yourself to the next level.”
While her individual accolades are remarkable, Kate emphasizes the importance of her team’s success. “We’ve been putting in a lot of effort in the off-season,” she said, noting that the team’s camaraderie has been a major factor in their recent achievements. “We have really begun to click and play as one. We are also a veteran team with a lot of older leadership”.
Outside of softball, Kate has proven herself a leader in her school and community. She is the president of Cancer Kids First, and is involved with Helping Paws and the Society of Women Engineers. Additionally, Kate is a proud member of the National Honor Society, where her academic excellence shines just as brightly as her athletic abilities.
However, it is her grandmother, Lucille Avis, who serves as Kate’s biggest inspiration. “She drove herself to better her life and her surroundings. She paved her own future while also never failing to help others around her. Everyone can look up to her strength and compassion. She gives me inspiration to always strive to keep going and make my life better”.
Looking ahead, Kate is excited to continue her athletic career at the prestigious United States Military Academy at West Point, where she has committed to playing softball. She plans to pursue a degree in the medical field or business administration.
As Kate enters her senior season, her goals are clear: continue to give her best on the field, lead her team to success, and keep striving to improve in every aspect of life. “Kate works very hard in every aspect of life. She’s not only a leader on the field, but in the school and community. She pursues excellence in all that she does” said head coach Meghan Stevens.
Please look for other local high school athletes to be named in next week’s Female Gamer of the Week Sponsored by Teays Physical Therapy Center, Inc. and The Putnam Herald.
