Keiffer Earns Gamer of the Week Honors
Teays Physical Therapy Center, Inc. and The Putnam Herald are pleased to present this week’s Male Gamer of the Week to Preston Keiffer of Winfield Basketball!
Preston Keiffer has been a key contributor for the 12-9 Winfield basketball team this season. “Preston Keiffer is the fuel to our program. As a senior he is our speaking captain and starting point guard. In the past 3 weeks, he has a 4 to 1 assist to turnover ratio, shooting 87.5% from the free throw line including going 6 for 6 in the final minutes to close out a win over AAAA county rival Hurricane,” said head basketball coach Travis Tarr.
When discussing individual and team success this season, Keiffer said “This season has been going well, we had a rough season last year, so we just wanted to go out and pick up wins. I hit the weight room the whole off season and just tried to get bigger, better, stronger, and faster.”
Keiffer started playing basketball when he was 6 and has played since. He credits his parents who both played in high school for getting him started in the sport. Keiffer didn’t have to look far for role models pointing to his dad as a great influence, mentor, role model, and someone he has always looked up to. When discussing the sport, he says that he likes the team work aspect of the sport, being around his teammates, and playing hard together.
In addition to basketball, Keiffer is also a member of the golf and baseball team. He was second team all-state last season in Baseball and won the conference championship in golf.
Looking ahead, Keiffer says he is looking forward to finishing the season strong with his fellow seniors Reid Fisher and Tyler Peros, whom he has played basketball with since he was little. The Winfield Generals will be back in action on Friday when they take on Point Pleasant in the Regional Tournament.
St Albans will be back in action tonight at 7:30pm in their season finale at Parkersburg.
