Steorts Earns Gamer of the Week Honors

Teays Physical Therapy Center, Inc. and The Putnam Herald are pleased to present this week’s male Gamer of the Week to Ty Steorts of Hurricane Track and Field.

Ty Steorts of Hurricane Track and Field has continued his dominance in the distance events this season. The Senior won the 1600m and 3200m at the Carlos Akers and Doc Hale Memorial in a time of 4:18.94 and 9:22.20 respectively. “The season has been going well; it’s still early so there is still time to build the base and get faster throughout the year. I am really excited for the state meet, our team has a really good shot at winning it, so I am looking forward to hopefully getting a team title,” said Steorts.

In addition to being consistent with his mileage, Steorts says that he has really been focused on his speed with the goal of dropping his 800m time and running a Sub 4-minute mile this season. “Ty is a great athlete, but he is also a great student and a great kid. He is invaluable to the success of the boy’s team this season. His dominance in the distance events is not only known in WV, but across the nation,” said Head Track and Field Coach Jimmy Cuningham.

Steorts has been invited to compete in the 3200m at the Arcadia Invitational next weekend. The race in Arcadia California will feature some of the best high school distance runners in the country. “This is going to be a fast race with the field pacing for a national record,” said Steorts.

When discussing people who have helped him along the way, Steorts mentioned his parents who have put in a lot of time and effort to support his running and coaches including his coach Jonathan Fee who he says has been a huge help and super nice to have around.

In addition to Track and Field, Steorts is also a 3x state champion in cross county to go along with his 3 individual state titles in track and field.  Looking ahead, Steorts has committed to run for the University of Tennessee this fall, and work toward a business/finance degree.
