Bailey Awarded Gamer of the Week Honors
Teays Physical Therapy Center, Inc. and The Putnam Herald are pleased to present this week’s Female Gamer of the Week to Sophomore, Sophie Bailey of the Poca High School volleyball team.
Poca volleyball is currently 10-4-3 on the season, and for the first time in history, they are currently ranked 10th in AA. Poca has defeated Hoover (currently #6) and Wayne (currently #4) this season. Poca volleyball is being led by middle, outside and defense #5 Sophie Bailey. Bailey is averaging 6.5 kills per game for a total of 117 for the season and leads the team with 34 aces. “Sophie has helped lead the volleyball team to the best season in Poca history. She was selected as an All-Tournament player in both the Sissonville Tournament and Poca Invitational.” said head coach Paul Chinuntdet.
Bailey has been playing volleyball for 6 years and first started playing in 5th grade when more girls were needed to play for the middle school team. Her favorite thing about the sport is how fast paced the game is. When not playing volleyball for Poca, Bailey plays travel volleyball and is also involved in show choir at Poca.
Sophie’s goals for the remainder of the season include continuing to grow and get better with her team. She feels her team has been most successful this season because of the work that they’ve put in together. Plans for after high school are still uncertain for Sophie, but she hopes to play volleyball in college. The Lady Dots will be back in action Saturday October 7th at 10 am versus Chapmanville Regional and South Charleston at Chapmanville.
Please look for other local high school athletes to be named in next week’s female Gamer of the Week Sponsored by Teays Physical Therapy Center, Inc., and The Putnam Herald.
