Davis Awarded Gamer of the Week Honors

Teays Physical Therapy Center, Inc. and The Putnam Herald are pleased to present this week’s Female Gamer of the Week to Senior, Albany Davis of the Winfield High School volleyball team.

The Winfield General Volleyball team is 16-14-1 on the season coming in at number 3 in the Cardinal Conference. Winfield’s senior outside hitter and defensive specialist #11, Albany Davis had a spectacular match on September 8th totaling 19 kills, 25 digs, and 1 ace. “Albany is an outstanding player in every facet of the game! She is a supportive and reliable teammate who works hard and leads by example every single day.” said head coach Jennifer Herscher.

Davis has played volleyball for numerous years, “Ever since I was little, I would play volleyball with a random ball or balloon around the house. Then, in 6th grade, I decided I would try out for the middle school volleyball team. I have played since then, totaling to 7 years of volleyball and I have played travel for 5 years.” Davis loves everything about the game of volleyball, but her favorite part must be her teammates because they are so supportive and make the game so much more fun. Davis’s team goal for the remainder of this season is to win states with her team. “The past 2 years we have made it to states but haven’t made it past the 1st round. This year it is our top priority to win.” stated Davis. Davis believes Winfield’s success this season has stemmed from the bond her teammates have and how well they play together. “We always push each other to be the best versions of ourselves.”

The role model Davis has had for the longest time was a former player who just graduated, Madison Jones. “She always knew exactly how to help me and was an amazing and inspiring player.”  After high school Davis will be attending West Virginia University, but her major is undecided. Off the court Davis is a part of the National Honor Society and played for Putnam Volleyball Club. The Lady General’s will be back in action Saturday, October 14th against Greenbrier East and PikeView.

Please look for other local high school athletes to be named in next week’s female Gamer of the Week Sponsored by Teays Physical Therapy Center, Inc., and The Putnam Herald.
