Freeman Earns Gamer of the Week Honors

Teays Physical Therapy Center, Inc. and The Putnam Herald are pleased to present this week’s male Gamer of the Week to Jacob Freeman of Winfield Soccer.

Jacob Freeman has been leading the way for the 8-4-4 Winfield Soccer team this season! The Junior Center back and three-year starter has been anchoring the defense that has 5 shutouts in their last 10 games. “The season has been going well, we were still trying to figure some things out the first couple games, but as the season has progressed, we have started to build our chemistry more and we have been getting some wins,” said Freeman. He continued saying “Nitro was a good game for us, we kept possession well and put some in the net.”

Freeman earned all-conference honors last season, and has continued to improve this season. “He has really stepped up this year, especially early when we had a lot of injuries affecting our back line. He anchored us through some very tough games where we leaned on him and he stepped up tremendously for those. Now that we are healthy, he has continued his strong play which combined with Willy, gives us a tremendously strong core in the backline,” said Head Coach Jay Rader.

Freeman followed in his older brother’s footsteps and started playing soccer when he was young. He considers his brother a role model and says that he has helped him train and put in work outside of practice. When discussing what he likes about soccer, he said that the sport is a stress reliever and he enjoys playing the beautiful game. In addition to soccer, Freeman is a member of Science National Honor Society and FCA.

Looking forward, Freeman is focused on locking up the Cardinal Conference Champions and then building off of where they’re at as they head into the post season. Winfield will be back in action when they travel to take on Huntington at 7:00pm on Thursday.
