Evie Loyd Awarded Gamer of the Week Honors
Teays Physical Therapy Center, Inc. and The Putnam Herald are pleased to present this week’s Female Gamer of the Week to Junior, Evie Loyd of the Winfield High School softball team.
Lady General, #33 Evie Loyd is helping lead her team to a successful 2024 softball season! The Winfield Generals are 21-9 on the season and have claimed the Sectional Championship over the Poca Dots with a triumphant 6-5 win in the 9th inning. “Evie has made a tremendous impact on our team. She can play all 3 outfield positions and helps us at the catching position. She’s athletic, smart and has great instincts within the game. As our leadoff hitter, she sits an aggressive approach at the plate for our lineup” Coach Steve Hensley.
Loyd plays left field for the Lady Generals and helps catch. When it comes to stats Loyd has a batting average of .412, 19 stollen bases, and an on base plus slugging percentage of 1.104. “She’s had a great year, and we are looking forward to her continuing success through this season and into her senior year. It’s been great to see her successful, she puts in a great amount of work and is being rewarded for that work” Coach Steve Hensley
Loyd has been playing softball for 11 years now and first got involved with the sport by growing up watching her dad coach at West Virginia State University. Evie’s dad is also her biggest role model. “His determination and work ethic make me strive to be just like him as both a player and a human being”. When discussing what Evie enjoys most about the game of softball it all comes down to friendships and the excitement of the game. A team goal the Lady Generals have for the remainder of this season is to claim the Regional title and then the State title. Loyd believes her team has been successful this season because “We all want the same thing; we are all working toward the same goal. We work so hard in practice and have a lot of dedication to be the best.”
Loyd is a member of the National Honor Society, Pep club, and FCA at Winfield High School. Evie also plays Volleyball at Winfield and plays travel softball for The Lady Dukes. Loyd received Cardinal Conference Honorable Mention during her time at Winfield. After high school, Loyd plans to attend West Virginia University and study Healthcare Administration.
