Ginier Earns Gamer of the Week Honors
Teays Physical Therapy Center, Inc. and The Putnam Herald are pleased to present this week’s Female Gamer of the Week to Freshman Genevieve Ginier of the Hurricane High School tennis team.
Genevieve Ginier first picked up a tennis racket in sixth grade after deciding she wanted to try a sport—any sport—and instantly fell in love with the game. “I love everything about it,” Ginier said. “Mainly just being out on the court and getting in the zone of playing out points.” Since then, she’s dedicated herself to improving and growing not just as a player, but also as a teammate.
Ginier began the season as an alternate for the HHS girls’ tennis team, but her dedication and team-first mindset quickly earned her a regular spot at third-seed doubles. Head Coach McKenzie DeFries says Ginier has been a standout since day one.
"She has shown up to every match—even when she hasn't been on the roster to play," said DeFries. "She steps up every time the team needs her and has played for girls who have already suffered injuries this season. She is an extremely valuable member of the team. Now a core part of the roster, Ginier believes strong communication with her doubles partner has played a big role in their success. “I think we work well together and we can communicate in matches,” she said.
Though she doesn't point to a single role model, Ginier studies professional players to help refine her game.Looking ahead, she has ambitious goals—hoping to play tennis at the collegiate level and pursue a career as a surgeon. Outside of tennis, Genevieve keeps a full schedule. She owns and competes with her horse, balancing equestrian events, tennis matches, and tournaments.
Please look for other local high school athletes to be named in next week’s Female Gamer of the Week Sponsored by Teays Physical Therapy Center, Inc. and The Putnam Herald.
