White Earns Gamer of the Week Honors

Teays Physical Therapy Center, Inc. and The Putnam Herald are pleased to present this week’s Female Gamer of the Week to Senior Lauren White of the Hurricane High School Basketball team.

Lauren White of the Hurricane High School Basketball team has dedicated the past 10 years to basketball, and her commitment is now shining through in what is shaping up to be a standout season. Starting her journey in 3rd grade with the Winfield Youth League, she knew early on that basketball was the sport for her. Now, as a standout player for her high school team, she’s setting the stage for a bright future on and off the court.

This season has been a career-defining one for Lauren, who has emerged as the heart and soul of her team. With a personal goal to score 1,000 career points and earn college basketball offers, she’s well on her way to achieving her dreams. Currently, she averages 12 points, 6 rebounds, 2 steals, 3 assists, and 1 block per game. Her dedication to the game is clear as she works tirelessly, not only to improve her own skills but also to contribute to the success of her team.

“Lauren has been an outstanding addition to our team this year. Her leadership, toughness and ability to score in a variety of ways has helped us have our best start to a season since 2015 at 8-0. She has been our most consistent player averaging 11 points and 5 rebounds per game but does so many other things on the court that don't show up on a stat sheet. She can defend, rebound and play multiple positions. Lauren wants to play at the next level, and I believe she can achieve that goal.” said Coach Jeremy Young.

Lauren's success can be attributed to her work ethic and commitment to the game. This summer, she played travel ball for West Virginia Thunder UAA, where she honed her skills and stayed in top shape through conditioning. She also dedicates time to volunteering, always looking for ways to contribute to her community.

Her passion for basketball goes hand-in-hand with her love for defense, where she shines with intensity. “My favorite thing is probably defense. I love the intensity it brings,” Lauren said. Her versatility doesn’t end with defense; as a shooting guard, she also plays small forward and occasionally steps into the point guard role. When asked about her role model, Lauren stated, "My role model is JJ Quinerly at WVU, I love the style of defense she plays and her love for the game."

Despite her individual success, Lauren places a strong emphasis on team chemistry. “Our team goal this year is to make it to the State Tournament. Beyond high school, Lauren has her eyes set on playing college basketball and pursuing a career as an athletic trainer. “I want to continue playing basketball at the next level and get my degree to become an athletic trainer,” she said.

The Lady Redskins will be back in action Friday January 10th versus the Parkersburg Big Reds at Parkersburg.
